Minnesota Twins Manager

February 18, 2008 - Ronald Clyde Gardenhire was born on October 24, 1957 in Butzbach, Hesse, Germany. After moving to the United States, he attended Okmulgee High School in Oklahoma and went on to college at the University of Texas at Austin.

Prior to coaching, Gardenhire played five seasons with the New York Mets from 1981 to 1985. During his career in baseball, he played several positions such as shortstop, second baseman and third baseman. Plauged by injuries, only twice was Gardenhire able to play more than 70 games in a season.

After his retirement, Gardenhire went on to manager the Minnesota farm system, leading his teams in to two first-place finishes and one second-place finish. In 1991, Gardenhire returned to the Pro Baseball when he was hired as the Minnesota Twins' third-base coach for 11 seasons. That same year, he was part of the team's World Series Championship win.

In 2002, Gardenhire replaced former Twins manager, Tom Kelly. Compared to Kelly's calm arguing nature, Gardenhire is the exact opposite. Fans often watch as the coach marches the field frequently to argue with umpires. His argumentive style of managing has led to his ejection 36 times as of 2007.

On October 20, 2006, Gardenhire resigned with the Twins with a two-year extension contract. In 2004, he was selected as the American League Co-Manager of the year alongside Buck Showalter. He also finished second for the AL Manger of the Year Award.

Now you can see Ron Gardenhire and his unique style of managing live and in action! It's not too late to get your Minnesota Twins tickets today!
